History

The airplane was delivered to Robert H. Klein on March 24th, 1937 through central Sales inc. Then it went to Sky Harbour Airport, date unknown.

Sometime after July 1940 it was sold to Newton B. Badgett. It was then used for student instruction, rental and aerobatic instruction. Badgett also owned S/N 162 and 172. This airplane had an engine failure on January 27th, 1941 ten miles north of Natchitoches, Louisiana while being flown by William John Meyer Jr.

Apparently the oil tank and its mount dropped on the top of the engine.

Sometime betwee4n April 1941 and November 1944 it was purchased by Memphis Flying Service and in February 1946 it was bought by Joseph D. Guthre.

Ed Bruzas in partnership with Eugene Guether, bought it about July or August 1946 and eventually sold it to Homer Terry.

L.H. Bohon owned it up to November 1959 and then sold it to Wendell Trogdon. At this time it had about 3000 hours on it.

A new Menasco D-4 was installed with a Flotorp 78M62 propeller. This gave 2000 RPM static, 2350 level flight and cruise at 2150 indicating 120 MPH.

Sometime in July 1963 the ship was sold to Mark Britt, an Eastern Airlines pilot. In May 1966 the airplane was purchased by two other Eastern Airlines pilots, Douglas Newhouse and Donald H. McClure. They completely dismantled it and restored it to like new.

They painted it in a maroon fuselage and cream wings. Ev Cassagneres inspected it in 1967 and proclaimed it beautiful. Newhouse sold the Ryan in November 1967, to David R. Conoley, who in turn sold it to John T. Crouse. The aircraft is now listed as owned by Shade tree aviation, owner Jim Wickersham
