History
The aircraft was delivered on March 6th, 1937 to Charles A. Devaney of Demorr Aeronautical Corporation, that was a Ryan Distributor, and they in turn sold it to Mr. Royal Mattison on February 4th, 1938. This airplane won first place in the Philadelphia Air races for 125 HP in the spring of 1938.
Average speed over the twenty mile course was 129 mph. A 4th place was also achieved in the unlimited HP class, in competition with a Wasp powered Beechcraft, a Stearman, and a Pitcairn mail-wing which placed ahead of the Ryan.
Flown by Mattison, he claimed that the Ryan was smoother and better than anything in its class. He was very pleased.
Mattison sold the airplane in May, 1939 to Philadelphia Skyport Inc. And in April 1941 they sold it to Troy Flyers, Inc. Owned and managed by Bob Reno.
(1901-1989) They used it for the CPTP program while operating 4 other Ryans.
In the original files on this ST there is a `structural failure report which states that a failure of the front pedal catching under lip of lower longeron attachment fitting while taxiing on the field was experienced by pilot William How, and passenger Nick Morris.
The ship was ``washed out`` (presumed destroyed) in a crash near Troy in about June of 1943. Details unknown and final disposition unknown. The aircraft was nicknamed ``Little Boy Blue``
