History

Purchased by W.H.Irwin along with NC14957,14983,14984, 14985, and 16034. He operated out of Candler Field, Atlanta, Georgia, also known as Air Service Inc. The history is rather limited, but rumour says that Tex Rankin established the Worlds record for consecutive outside loops (131 in 131 minutes, at Charlotte, NC) in this airplane. Never owned by Rankin, and registered to Irwin throughout the time it was demonstrated by Rankin, who picked up at the Ryan factory, flew it to Detroit for the annual air show and then on the U.S. Tour. This is the ST-A in which Tex Rankin lost rudder control, it broke loose from the hinges, during a demo / sales tour of the U.S.A. Often flown by student pilot Henry C. Bagley of Atlanta. In late 1940 or 41 it went to the St Louis Flying Service and used for student pilot training and possibly in the CPTP program. According to FAA records the airplane was wrecked, dismantled and not rebuilt, date and location unknown.
