History
Sold new on July 5th, 1938. Crated and shipped to the Government of Guatemala, Guatemala City, Guatemala.
Equipped with machine gun mounting brackets and synchronizers.
The ship was found and purchased by Hower Aircraft Company in about 1959 or 1960, and brought to the U.S.
In 1961 -62 Ed Ortowski bought up several of the Guatemalan ships including this one, and started to rebuild it at ATC 681 specs. Ortowski was killed in an aircraft accident, and Mrs. Sara Ortowski sold the aircraft to Walter C. Hill in April 1971.
The U.S. Registration number, N17345 was applied for and approved. This was originally assigned to Ryan ST-A SN 152.
Hill flew the aircraft for a number of years, but had an accident where he nosed the aircraft over while landing on soft ground.
While rebuilding the gear, cowl and additional parts he chose (on advice from Ev Cassagneres), to paint the aircraft in its original Guatemalan colour scheme.
He subsequently donated the aircraft to the EAA foundation, and it is now on permanent display in the EAA museum.
