History

Delivered right from the assembly line to the Ryan School on December 6, 1937. A Ryan student by the name of Harry Marshall bough the ``learn to fly`` package which included this airplane.

The registration NC16037 was originally to have been assigned to Ryan ST-A SN 126, but it was retained by the CAA when that aircraft was exported to Brazil, so 16037 was moved up to SN 178.

The next owner was James Tommey but the date of sale is not known. Records indicate that the airplane was damaged in an accident at Linda Bista Airport, near San Diego. The date of the accident and other details are unknown, it may have been flown at the time by James Tommey.

Then the aircraft as purchased in damaged condition by Guy Hodsell. In June of 1941 a letter was received at the Ryan office from Hodsell requesting a fuselage complete from the rear cockpit forward to the firewall so that he could have his ship fixed up. He mentioned it was for SN 178.

In march 1942 it was purchased by James C. Short. It was apparently cracked up before he bought it, and he planned to use it in his training classes at his Shorts Trade and Technical School.

Final disposition unknown, parts could still exist.
