The aircraft was purchased new at the Ryan Factory on July 16th, 1937 by William C. Joy in partnership with is two brothers, Richard and Thomas. They were prominent in the Detroit area and were formerly in the Automobile business, in the early years of the Packard Motor Company.
Not much is known about this airplane except that it was used mainly for training and pleasure.
Richard Joy was the legal owner when on September 23, 1938 it was involved in a fatal accident in which Thomas Joy was killed.
