History

It was sold new on June 11th, 1937 to Ben F. Hazelton, a student with the Ryan School. He eventually used it for air-shows throughout the East and Midwest. He had a Cadillac pressure pump mounted in the front cockpit for inverted flight. He used a parachute which he purchased from Douglas “Wrong Way” Corrigan for which he paid $25.00. Ben thinks it was nothing but a bag of rags.

Next owner was Doctor C.A. Dixon, date of sale unknown.

In 1938 it was purchased by Harry S. Renkert Jr. For the price of $3000.00. He used it for student training and air shows, and some pleasure flying.

Renkert was a first lieutenant serving with the ferry Command at Reno, Nevada during first part of WWII.

On June 22nd, 1945, a Robert Keppler was flying the Ryan at dusk, ran out of fuel and decided to jump, which he did. He was uninjured and landed OK. The airplane crashed about a mile south of North Industry, near Canton, Ohio.

Parts could still exist.
